Dream Chaser A DreamHunter Novel (Audible Audio Edition) Sherrilyn Kenyon Fred Berman Macmillan Audio Books

Author Sherrilyn Kenyon had created an interesting way to view Mythology and create amazing stories from the many mythological characters many people have probably read about or heard about while growing up.

We first were treated to her Dark Hunter series which in turn brought us into her Were Hunter and Dream Hunters as SECONDARY characters. However, many then begged for their stories and now we have the Were-Hunter, Dream-Hunter and Hellchaser series.
This is Sherrilyn Kenyon's web site. You should really check out the blog and biography's/Pictures she has about her characters.

We first were introduced to the character of Xypher in Devil May Cry as his service was requested to help out therefore Hades lent him out. However, Hades never lends someone out without a bargain. Since Xypher was able to help in that situation he was allowed to live out ONE month on earth.

Xypher figured that since he only had a month then it was back to being tortured for crimes the Gods believed him guilty of he was going after the person who tricked him into teaching him to invade other's dreams. This person is Satara (sister to Stryker, daughter of Apollo and slave to Atremis) also tortured those people. She tricked Xypher into admitting to her crimes then reneged on their deal. If that was not bad enough, she then came to watch as he was tortured for her crimes AND she laughed at him for believing her.
He is out to find a way into her domain so he can kill her.

Then we have Simone who is a medical examiner who can see spirits of those who have passed away but not gone over to the other side. She sometimes can get help from those spirits in solving their own murders.

Unfortunately Satra has it in for Xypher and Simone just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Then they are bounded together by an ancient piece of jewelry which will kill them both if they go to far from each other or if one is attacked and killed the other one dies as well. Satara figures tie him to a human because humans are easy to kill.

The characters are likeable EVEN the bad ones. You just root for the rotten ones sometimes which says a lot in how an author can make even the most evil character likeable.
It was funny, well paced, the interaction between the hero and heroine was hilarious as well as the secondary characters and their interactions.

My only issue with this was how the Dimme Demon's character and Simone were tied together. It just seemed to be tacked on and not well developed. I was wanting to know more and see more interaction between Simone and her newly founded cousin.

Over all this was a good book with a great story and likeable characters.

Me? I get mayhem and blood. And as a medical examiner, Simone knows what she's talking about. She works with Tate, the coroner who just happens to be the Dark-Hunter squire that you met in Kyrian and Amanda's story, Night Pleasures. Dream Chaser begins where Devil May Cry ends, with hero Xypher on a quest to find the missing Dimme Gallu demon. The missing demon is Kerryana and she's with Xedrix, a Charonte demon from Club Charonte and Club Vampyre. Interesting twist of fate. Jaden, the Demon broker with the mismatched eyes, is a prominent character as well. Yet the waters surrounding his character become even murkier than ever by the end of the book. He's more of an enigma than Acheron, as is his "master" who controls him. Simone quips sarcasm with the best of them and Xypher is endearing and his transformation into a worthy hero is a wild-assed roller coaster ride from the get go. Factor in a teen-age, stuck in the 80's ghost and you have all the makings of a good read. Julian (Fantasy Lover), Kat, and Acheron also make supporting appearances. For once it isn't Ash who saves the day. You will also discover some unexpected things about the Peltier Bear Clan.
Oh, Xypher. There is SO MUCH I like about this guy. He made a really bad choice back in the day and he's been paying in blood and bone ever since. And HE ACCEPTS that his punishment is just because he has this big heaping lump of honor inside him. The worst part about his story is that everyone believes he's some sort of ravening pyscho who drives mortals mad for laughs and he's not. HE'S NOT.

*pets Xypher*

Meanwhile, when Xypher isn't getting whipped by a skeleton (which isn't a euphemism for anything - there's a skeleton, it whips him), we get to see one of the ways that the Sumerian pantheon and the Greek pantheon are linked. Which is pretty cool. Not so much for Xypher, but the threads that were laid out in Sin and Kat's story are coming together here to make a bigger picture.

And then there's Simone. Simone who has a gift and a ghost. Simone who gets dragged into the middle of everything and faces the very bad things that are coming after her and Xypher with fierce resolve. Those two are so cute together. Xypher's surliness pitted against Simone's teasing and stuck-in-the-80s ghost.

The gallu threat is still present but several other issues are cleared up. We get a cameo by Ash (OMG! His book is nexxxxxxt!) and a new player is introduced who can do BIG things if his price is met.

Whew. Time to tackle Ash's story.
